Reducing current sense resistor value in TPS62150 LED driver

Hi,

We are using a TPS62150 in CC mode to drive a white LED.

Specs:

Vin: 2.8-12V

LED: Vf 2.6-2.9V, 300ma - 1A max

SS/TR pin connected to DAC to adjust LED forward current.

In Application Report SLVA451 page 2 figure 1 shows the topology we will be using. The issue we have with this circuit is the high value current sense resistor of 0.25 ohms.

With a LED forward current of 1A the CSR will dissipate 250mw. This is large for a battery powered application. There is another report SLEA004 page 2, figure 1 and page 3 figure 2 that shows a method of reducing power dissipation in the CSR.

Would like to know if this method could be adapted to the circuit shown in SLVA451. Our application will not require a large output current range. We would like to reduce the RCS value to 0.100 ohms

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
